Mary Anne Rooke is past Chairman, former President and Managing Director of the Angel Investor Forum (AIF) based in Connecticut. The Angel Investor Forum’s mission is to create a dynamic investment environment where private investors and entrepreneurs can find mutual success. AIF is an investor group comprised of 40+ angel investors from Connecticut and New York. Annually, over 350 early stage / startup companies submit business plans and “pitches” to AIF for capital investment consideration.
As President and Managing Director of AIF, Mary Anne organized, managed and led the 1st Annual Northeast ACA Angel Summit in September 2009 that was held in conjunction with Connecticut Technology Council’s (CTC) Innovation and Entrepreneurship Summit, Innovation Pipeline Awards (IPA) and “Companies to Watch” Showcase event.
She also established the “AIF Young Entrepreneur Award” to be chosen and awarded at the upcoming Connecticut Invention Convention (CIC) in May 2010. This award recognizes a middle school student who displays a concept — either an invention or an idea — that is creative, innovative, resourceful, and revolutionary that has the potential to grow into a promising business opportunity.
Mary Anne is the founder of Rooke & Associates, a boutique management consulting firm based in Lyme, Connecticut and serving the East Coast between New York and Boston. Founded on the West Coast in 1993, Rooke & Associates is now firmly rooted in southeastern Connecticut where Mary Anne was born and raised. Rooke & Associates specializes in providing a wide range of management consulting services including interim management, strategic planning, organizational development & executive coaching for businesses of all sizes. The firm also provides general management consulting in operational aspects of business planning, management training, customer service and computer applications services. Her client base has included for-profit businesses as well as non-profit organizations and government agencies.
She co-founded two additional startup ventures in California: Corporate Health Management (CHM) which specialized in helping companies assess and reduce all health and workers compensation costs by using CHM’s “Health Cost Check-up” software; and ConflictSolvers, LLC, which developed dispute resolution products and training programs.
Through Mary Anne’s management consulting and angel investor activities, she has worked closely with the entrepreneurial communities on both the east and west coasts. Prior to founding Rooke & Associates, Mary Anne held positions as Chief Financial Officer and Controller in multiple industries ranging from start-up ventures to Fortune 500 companies in both publicly owned and privately held sectors. She has over 30 years of extensive management experience in strategic planning, accounting, finance, IT, auditing, risk management, human resources, customer service, health management and overall business operations. Mary Anne has expertise across many industries including service, manufacturing, life science, transportation, distribution and retail that she gained while working at Browning Ferris Industries (BFI), Quantum Corp., Syntex, Crowley Maritime, Inc., Vasocor Corp., Morgan Equipment Co., M. D. Oppenheim and TJX Companies. She holds a B.S. in Accounting from Annhurst College and a M.B.A. from Golden Gate University’s Executive MBA Program.
While living in the San Francisco Bay Area, Mary Anne has also served as a Trustee & Vice-Chair of the Marine Science Institute’s Board of Trustees, an educational organization in Redwood City that operates a “floating marine science classroom and laboratory” and shoreside programs for grade-school, high-school and college youth. She also served 6 years as a Commissioner and Past President of the San Mateo County Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). On behalf of the Commission, she was the Co-Chair of the Women’s Appointments Network and the Community Speak Ups Task Force. Mary Anne served as President of the Board of Directors of the Burlingame-based Women’s Recovery Association and also as its Treasurer.
After relocating back to Connecticut in 2002, Mary Anne has continued her commitment to her local community by devoting many seasons as a coach for her son’s soccer, little league and basketball teams. She recently served on the Board of Directors for the Community Music School in Essex, Chair of the Admissions Committee for the Hamburg Cove Yacht Club and on its Junior Sailing Committee.
Mary Anne enjoys many water sports including boating, fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving and kayaking.
